Micro Mosaics

French Inkpot, 2nd half of 19th century, with Roman Micro Mosaics

Very well preserved French inkpot, second half of 19th century (2nd Empire Style), decorated with champlevé technique.

It is embroidered with four ovals (at each corner) in micro mosaics depicting classic landscapes of Rome:

Colosseo,
Fori Imperiali,
Castel Sant’Angelo,
Piazza S.Pietro.
The micro mosaics are of fine quality, and were surely made in Rome, their style is unmistakable.

It misses the glass ink holder that goes inside the central boule.
