Chinese Bead Carved in a Fruit Pit, 19th century or before

The art of fruit pit carving (haidao) began in the 8th century bce, and first examples date from the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279); it became very popular during the Ming Dynasty (1386 – 1644). The popularity grew up until the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1911).

This bead has human figures, animals, and flowers, a wonderful colour and gorgeous patina.
No damages, stringing holes wear.
Datable to the 19th century or before (Qing Dynasty).
